The batsmen, bowlers and fieldsmen
do not get a fraction of the pleasure
that the 'fans' beyond the boundary derive.
They note each fault and
excellence in the stroke and defense;
they appreciate the finer points of the game.
So too, to get the maximum joy
out of this game of living,
one should cultivate the attitude of onlooker,
even when one has to get embroiled in the game.
When an actor weeps or laughs on the stage,
he watches his own weeping or laughing and
tries to make it more realistic and effective.
So too, be the witness of
your activities and thoughts;
keep afar and away, without attachment or disgust.

God resides in the heart,
beyond the reach of external objects.
Man today sheds copious tears
for achieving wealth, health, position and fame.
Does he shed a single tear
for getting the grace of God or winning His love?
Saint Purandaradasa sang,
"Of what use are eyes that cannot see God?"
You use your eyes
all your life to see the external world.
What do you achieve thereby?
No one attempts to see the Unseen.
The daily chores, eating and sleeping are repeated endlessly.
But there is no yearning
to see the Unseen Divine.
It is only when you develop that desire
will your life become meaningful. That alone confers peace.

People must control themselves
through their own innate strength,
not get controlled through fear,
or someone, or desire for temporary gain.
Self-control promotes self-reliance,

Good work that is enveloped

The rewards of such work
will follow the trail but will
reveal itself only when the work is complete.
Hence, concentrate and immerse
yourselves in the given work of God, fully.
Do not look behind from time to time
to see if the jewels of fame, recognition
and payment follow or not.
That, itself, will take away
the complete perfection from the work.
Work is direction -
work is the vision of the goal.
The harder and lengthier the work,
the more grateful you must be to the Master,
for it is only His compassion and love for you
that is allowing you to fill the time with His own doing!
Do not be eager to finish,
for the idle one will, eventually, face the fury of time!

The light will dawn on you,
only after you have Sathya, Dharma, Shanti and Prema.
The root cause is not known or experienced.
How, then, can lasting peace be acquired?
Many people pray to God, "I want peace."
There are three words in this statement.
Remove two words: "I" (ego) and "want" (desires),
then what remains is peace.
If you overcome ego and desire,
you will have peace.
It is only moral and spiritual education
which can confer such peace.
Modern education represents "Split of Love."
One should have both moral education and spiritual knowledge.
Modern education produces only "learned fools."
It does not produce wise men who can meet life calmly and bravely.
Its products know how
to fill themselves with information,
device tools or handle them

Foresee the threats,
only so that you develop
the courage to clear the thorns in your path.
For how long, My child,
will you stand rooted
to the ground in your fear
for the challenge ahead!
Live the life of self discipline,
and you will be able to conquer every fear.
Practice developing the restraint
that will prevent you from acting
against the nature of the true self.
Such continuous control will,
eventually, stop one from reacting,
impulsively, and in fact,
will develop the inner maturity
that will allow one to review his response,
several times, before he approves to react
in the appropriate manner!
Such control comes,
easily, once one has begun to love
and respect the nature of the self,
for in the wish, lies the laziest of all efforts.

The Little Candle
The Little Candle
Once upon a time a little candle stood in a room filled with other candles, most of them much larger and much more beautiful than she was. Some were ornate and some were rather simple, like herself. Some were white, some were blue, some were pink, some were green. She had no idea why she was there, and the other candles made her feel rather small and insignificant.
When the sun went down and the room began to get dark, she noticed a large man walking toward her with a ball of fire on a stick. She suddenly realized that the man was going to set her on fire. No, no!! she cried, Aaaaagghhh! Donʼt burn me, please! But she knew that she could not be heard and prepared for the pain that would surely follow.
To her surprise, the room filled with light. She wondered where it came from since the man had extinguished his fire stick. To her delight, she realized that the light came from herself.
Then the man struck another fire stick and, one by one, lit the other candles in the room. Each one gave out the same light that she did.
During the next few hours, she noticed that, slowly, her wax began to flow. She became aware that she would soon die. With this realization came a sense of why she had been created. Perhaps my purpose on earth is to give out light until I die, she mused. And thatʼs exactly what she did.
Lord created you and I to produce light in a dark world. Like that little candle, we all can produce the same amount of light, no matter how small we are or what color we might be. But we canʼt produce light until we receive it from an outside source. That source is Lord, the light of the world.

When it tastes sweet delicacies,
it sends them to the stomach.
But if the item is bitter,
the tongue at once spits it out.
Not merely that,
the tongue conducts itself
in the most honourable manner.
It does not step out
of its house (mouth)
under any circumstances.
It does all its work
without crossing its limits.
While all other senses do only one work each,
the tongue alone has the capacity to do two types of work,
namely, to taste and to speak.
That is why one
has to exercise proper control
over the tongue lest it should
indulge in sinful activities like talking ill of others.
In times of anger, observe silence.
Our ancients taught: talk less, work more.
The lesser you speak, the purer your heart remains.

While all other senses do only one work each,
the tongue alone has the capacity to do two types of work,
namely, to taste and to speak.

has to exercise proper control
over the tongue lest it should
indulge in sinful activities like talking ill of others.

To fight the oppression, one must first learn to be able to see it with calmness..
To fight the oppression,
one must first learn to be able to see it with calmness.
If one is unable
to bear another's weakness -
he must realize, instantly,
that the same weakness surely exists in him.
In such a circumstance,
one must, at first, stay silent.
Silent, for he, too,
is developing the strength
to remove the poison of the evil snake within him.
Until you can find
the strength to bear
with compassion, conviction
and confidence another's weakness -
until then, do not confront him!
For then, it will not be
a confrontation between
the bad and the good -
it will be a confrontation
between the bad and the foolish!
Immerse yourself in activities
that awaken the feeling of pure love within you.
Let it awaken,
and then draw strength from it, My child!
Let so much strength awaken that one feels
pure love and not hatred towards his opponent.
Only then, will one be able
to defend with the Divine Truth,
and only then, will he develop the divine Vision,
in which he sees the evil separate from the doer.
With such Divine weapons,
one will be able to target
the arrow upon the evil,
with no pain inflicted upon the doer!
